Glendale Glitters is an annual event that takes place in downtown Glendale. Guests can come by any night from 5 to 10 PM during the holiday season to check out the 1.6 million glittering lights that span 16 blocks.
The event kicks off with the mayor flicking the switch. This is typically accompanied by live entertainment. Then come down any night to shop the local vendors, enjoy food from the food trucks, visit Santa and say hello to the animals at the petting zoo.
Rockin’ Christmas Drive Through
The Rockin’ Christmas Drive Through happens at 6797 93rd St. in Glendale. It kicks off in early November and runs through early January.
Take your car through a one-mile tunnel of light and sound that includes life sized music notes and a Santa deejay. The show is advertised as the largest in the world featuring millions of colorful lights.
To motivate guests to come on weeknights, there are various themes to enjoy. These include:
• Magic Mondays with Santa: Santa will be in the park for meet and greets every Monday.
• Golden Ticket Tuesdays: Those that buy a ticket for a Tuesday night ride will automatically be entered in a lottery to win $50 to $500,
• Share the Love Wednesdays: Proceeds for tickets sold to Wednesday events will be donated to Arizona wish kids.
Hometown HC Parade
The Hometown HC Parade is another Glendale tradition you won’t want to miss. It takes place in mid-December. The route starts at 51st St. and Glendale Ave. and proceeds to 58th and Glendale. It includes marching bands, holiday themed floats and more. There are also several drop off locations along the route where guests can place donations for the Hope for Hunger Food Drive.
Scary Christmas House in Glendale
There are many Glendale homes that will be dressed to the nines for the Christmas season, but the Scary Christmas House in Glendale is one worth checking out. It has a great Nightmare Before Christmas theme and new attractions are added every year. Guests are encouraged to make donations to local charities.
Visit the Westgate Entertainment District
The Westgate Entertainment District is a great place to enjoy the holiday season. It has a terrific al fresco setting, and it is filled with water fountains, outdoor patios and palm trees. There are plenty of places to do holiday shopping and eat great meals. You can also view live entertainment. There are bound to be festive events taking place there during the holiday season.
Glendale Historic District
The Glendale Historic District is a terrific place to celebrate the holiday season. Historic Old Town and Caitlin Court are tree lined areas full of charming shops and restaurants. During the Christmas season, business owners get in on the fun by offering treats and specials at their locations.
A shuttle is available to take you through the downtown area ensuring you don’t miss out on anything. Things to check out include free photos with Santa at Glendale Flowers & Gifts, holiday trivia at Velma Teague Branch Library, free Christmas cookies at Bears and More, cookie decorating at Cookie Oaties, a free grab bag with school supplies at Gracie’s Marketplace, readings and massages at the Astrology Store, special holiday ice cream flavors at Papa Ed’s Ice Cream, sweet tamales at Bitz-ee Mama’s and holiday themed decorating at Cerreta Candy Co.
The Arizona Doll and Toy Museum
The Arizona Doll and Toy Museum is located in the Glendale Historic District and it’s a great place to kick off the event. Stop by the North Pole Information Booth to pick up an event map and enter to win prizes.
Then wander through the museum to see the cases filled with old fashioned toys and dolls some of which date back as far as the 17th century. Don’t forget to check out the School Room, a reconstructed classroom that represents educational techniques of the past. It will also be filled with toys, dolls and books.
Xeriscape Botanical Garden
The Xeriscape Botanical Garden is a garden that surrounds the Glendale Main Library. The award-winning garden is a representation of low water use plants that make up the delightful scenery. It is free and open to the public.
Tanger Outlets Westgate
Tanger Outlets is another terrific place to get holiday shopping done. The outlet stores promise deep discounts. If you are an AAA/CAA or AARP member, bring along your membership card to get a coupon book for even more savings. Members of the military are eligible as well.
Tolmachoff Farms promises Christmas fun for the whole family. Children will enjoy visiting the Pumpkin Patch, sliding down inflatable slides, petting the animals in the petting zoo and checking out the water trough and corn pit. Guests of all ages will love the tractor rides and large mazes.
There is a variety of produce to purchase. During the Christmas season, they also sell trees and wreaths.
